From our Old Town surf shop on Rua Cândido dos Reis, we've been renting surfboards in Lagos since 2009. The fleet covers everything from beginner foam softboards for first sessions at Meia Praia to performance shortboards, longboards, fish, and mini-Malibus. We carry Torq epoxy boards across every level plus picks from Flowt, NSP, Ocean&Earth, and Quiksilver. If you prefer flat water and grottos, our inflatable stand-up paddleboards (and our yoga SUP) launch a 5-minute walk away at Praia da Batata. Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned surfer, our team will pick the right board for you. Pickup is daily, 9 am to 9 pm, with a wetsuit option, free roof straps for your hire car, and the option to swap boards mid-rental if the swell changes. Where to surf with your rental board
Lagos sits between two coasts. Our team will point you to the right beach for the day's swell, your level, and the board you've rented.
Meia Praia
Sheltered south-coast beach, soft sandy bottom, small consistent waves. Best paired with a foam softboard or mini-Malibu.
Porto de Mós or Praia da Luz
South-coast breaks with cleaner walls when there is swell. Step up to a fish, 6’8 funboard, or a Torq epoxy.
Zavial, Arrifana or Amado
Atlantic west-coast breaks with proper power. Bring a shortboard, performance fish, or longboard depending on the day. Free roof straps loaned at pickup.

How do I rent a surfboard from Jah Shaka?
Renting a surfboard is easy. Browse our board selection, pick your board, choose a duration and a pickup date, and submit the booking request form. We'll send you a payment link by email (secure checkout via Stripe), and once paid your board is ready for pickup at your chosen timeslot. You can also rent straight from the shop if you prefer.
Where do I pick up my rental, and when are you open?
Pickup is at the Jah Shaka Surf Shop, R. Cândido dos Reis 112, 8600-681 Lagos, in the heart of Old Town Lagos and around a 5-minute walk from Batata beach. We're open 7 days a week, from 9:00 am until late. Find us on Google Maps.
Can I rent a wetsuit along with the surfboard?
Yes. When you pick a surfboard, there's a toggle on the booking form to add a wetsuit right alongside it, so you can configure both in one checkout. Booking the two together also gets you a discount on the wetsuit. You can browse standalone wetsuits in our online shop.
How can I transport my surfboard?
We've got strap-on ropes to help you carry your surfboard on a (rental) car roof. The straps are free to borrow; we just take a small refundable deposit that you get back when you return them. Our team will show you how to mount them when you pick up your board.
Do I need to leave ID or a deposit at pickup?
Yes. As part of your rental guarantee we hold either a form of identification (passport, national ID card or driving licence) or a cash deposit. We fill out a short declaration form together at the shop when you arrive. More details are on our booking information page.
Are rentals available for beginners, intermediate, and advanced surfers?
Yes, we cater to surfers of all levels. Our fleet includes boards suitable for beginners learning the ropes, intermediates working on their style, and advanced surfers looking for high-performance shapes. Not sure what fits you? What is the rental duration, and can I extend it?
Rentals are available for full-day or multi-day periods. You can book up to 14 days online; if you'd like to rent for longer or extend an existing rental, just get in touchand we'll happily arrange it.
Can I switch to a different board during my rental period?
Yes, you can. Conditions in Lagos change day to day, so if you feel like trying a different board during your rental, just let us know and we'll swap it. Our team also gives local surf-spot advice based on swell, wind and tide.
Is there a discount for renting multiple boards or for an extended period?
Yes. For extended rental durations you automatically get a discounted price at booking. For group rentals or custom packages, contact usand we'll put together the best deal for your needs.
Do I need to make a reservation for board rentals?
Walk-ins are welcome, but we recommend reserving online to secure your preferred board and ensure availability, especially during peak season. Booking ahead means you just walk in, pick up your board and head out.
Do you also rent stand-up paddleboards (SUPs)?
Yes. We rent inflatable stand-up paddleboards in 4-hour, 8-hour and 25-hour blocks, with safety life jacket and paddle included. See availability on our SUP rentals page.
Where can I surf with my rental board near Lagos?
From our shop, Meia Praia (5 min) is the calmest beginner spot. Porto de Mós and Praia da Luz (10–15 min) suit intermediates when there's swell. Advanced surfers usually head 30 to 45 min to the west coast, to Zavial, Arrifana or Amado. We loan free roof straps for hire cars at every pickup. See our guide to surf spots in Lagos & the Algarve.
What happens if the swell drops or the conditions are bad?
You can swap your board for a different shape any time during your rental, free of charge. Drop from a shortboard to a longboard for smaller days, or upsize for clean ones. If conditions are unsafe and you can't surf at all, we'll extend your rental period or refund the unused days. Just message us or pop into the shop.
Do you also rent bodyboards or wetsuits standalone?
Yes. Wetsuits can be added to any surfboard rental at checkout for a bundle discount, or rented standalone in person at the shop. Message us on WhatsApp for current sizes and pricing. Bodyboards are stocked in season; please call ahead.
